THE GIANT OF SUMMER

Acrylic on wood panel - 5x7" - (C)BruceDocker,2009
$100.00

This rubber plant on my deck is entirely out of control. It's over six feet tall! I have to cut about a foot off of it to bring it in for winter. Hard telling how much the damn thing weighs.

MIDNIGHT FLOWER

Acrylic on wood panel - 5" x 7" - (C)BruceDocker,2009
$100.00

I am a terrible gardener. I lose interest at the end and things end up rotting on the vine. But, even I can't screw up a sunflower. They were amazing this year. I went out after dark an took a picture to work from.

SLEEPING SWAN

"There is a strong oriental vein in the artist's work. His landscapes and farm scenes are reminiscent of Japanese wood prints, both in composition and palette. He bends trees and tilts the ground in unconventional, at least in western terms, twists; his cautious and reverential treatment of space also exhibits a touch of the oriental. Japanese workshops often manufactured a series of works, and so does Bruce, either intentionally or not. Perhaps that he paints on plywood is also more than a coincidence. Post-impressionist artist were known to be influenced by Hiroshige and Utamaro, and thus Bruce may be enjoying an indirect fruition from the eastern art form. Eventually, in spite of these influences, the core of the artist's style remains strictly his own, and though there is a measure of predictability, each new painting comes as a surprise. For me, there is a always a degree of comfort to be found in the fact that you both know and don't know what to expect."

ANOTHER JEWEL FROM THE RIVER

Acrylic on panel - 5x7" - (C)BruceDocker,2008
$100.00

I've painted several kinds of skulls, both human and animal. They are an interesting subject and I like the way they have come out. Perhaps my sense of realism in my own work is skewed, I know this is not realistic in the photographic way, but it seems very realistic to me. For that matter most of my paintings are that way for me.

This plant is outside when the weather is nice and comes in, in the winter. It's lost a few leaves but seems to have survived in the house. Others weren't so fortunate.

THE STUDIO CHAIR

The studio - no really. I do own an easel, but it's not much use for small daily paintings. All I really need is a comfortable chair and a small table.

I was walking through a dry stream bed when I saw this old red lined jean jacket on the rocks. I liked the changes of texture and color between the rocks and the cloth.
